Sightseeing of Mainz

Mainzer Dom

KHG and IRO travel together to Mainz. The state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate is also the largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate and has Roman origins. Mainz is the seat of the Johannes Gutenberg University, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mainz as well as the Südwestrundfunk (SWR) and the Second German Television (ZDF). Together with the Jewish communities of Speyer and Worms, Mainz is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its Jewish heritage.

Visit the Gutenberg-Museum

Gutenberg-Statue

Mainz is also home to the world's oldest printing museum, the Gutenberg Museum. Johannes Gutenberg, the most famous son of the city of Mainz, invented the printing press with movable metal letters. He used it to print the world-famous Gutenberg Bible. This invention triggered a media revolution over 550 years ago.

As the museum is being renovated, visitors can visit the interim exhibition "Gutenberg Museum MOVED" in the Natural History Museum Mainz, Reichklarastraße 1. This relates the history of book printing to current social issues.

Afterwards it is possible to picnic together. Bring provisions with you. If you don't feel like it, you can already visit the city. The return trip is planned for 4 p.m. So that there is more time for individual plans, we offer that everyone drives back on their own.
